HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BRAKES CHECKED THIS SEASON??
Brakes are a normal wear item and will eventually need
replacing; however, it is your driving habits and operating conditions that play a huge role in how often this service will need to be done.
They work by creating friction to slow and stop, so every time
you depress the brake pedal, the shoes or pads rub against the drums or
discs, causing wear. Therefore, it's essential to have them inspected regularly--
usually every six months or 10,000 km. We firmly believe in preventative maintenance, and by keeping up with your regular scheduled maintenance's, a brake inspection is included in this service eliminating a separate appointment.
You may need to have and inspection done if,
Having a smooth surface on a rotor is critical for optimal performance. If you notice unusual shaking when the brakes are applied, call and have it serviced as soon as possible because when addressed promptly, our Goodwrench technicians can
machine or resurface your rotors (within spec) to prevent further
damage. Continuing to drive with worn-out rotors could result
in a costly repair!
Having a badly worn brake pad such as this one will cause a squealing noise every time the system is applied as there is metal rubbing on metal!!
You will notice the smooth surface on the brake pad in this picture. Most have built-in wear indicators that make a high-pitched
warning sound when the pads are worn and new ones are required. This
"warning" sound means that soon they will need to be serviced. Continuing to drive with worn-out pads could result
in a costly repair. There are many different types of replacement components out in the marketplace. In fact, there are no mandatory standards for replacement parts. So, what do you need to know to make your decision?
Quality parts will perform better and provide greater customer satisfaction.
You get what you pay for and with replacement parts, this couldn't be more accurate. The best replacement parts money can buy are original equipment (OE) parts.
If you don't want to pay a premium for Original Equipment, then look for the D3EA® certification stamp on your replacement brake components.
D3EA® certification establishes component output performance consistent with Motor Vehicle Safety Standards braking requirements.
D3EA® measures both the front and rear braking system specific friction performance of shoes, pads, drums and rotors.
Product that achieve D3EA® certification and carry the D3EA® seal must be tested and re-qualified every two years.
